A CHILD’S VIEW FROM GAZA
A Children’s Art Exhibition
December 9 through 30, 2011
An Art Exhibit of Children’s Drawings from Gaza was recently banned by The Children’s Museum in Oakland (MOCHA). Much of this artwork was drawn by children participating in the Middle East Children’s Alliance’s “Let the Children Play And Heal” Project. “Let the Children Play and Heal” gives tens of thousands of children and youth in Gaza opportunities to express themselves though art, dance, music, story-telling, theatre and puppetry; to get support from the larger community; and to have fun and just be children. It was developed to address the needs of traumatized children after the 2009 assault on Gaza and provide much needed pyschosocial support. The museum buckled to pressure from Pro-Israeli foundations and funders and cancelled the exhibition.
Zeitgeist is honored to bring “A CHILD’S VIEW FROM GAZA” to New Orleans as a fund-raiser for the Middle East Children’s Alliance. Opening Reception: Friday, December 9 – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
For more information on the exhibition, the controversy around MOCHA’s decision to cancel the exhibition, the pressures exerted on them by pro-Israeli groups and individuals as well as how you can support the Middle East Children’s Alliances programs and activities in Gaza and the West Bank, please go to http://www.mecaforpeace.org/
